Produced for Talente, an annual exhibition at the Internationale Handwerksmesse in Munich, this collection of silk worked to develop both the aesthetics and concepts from my MFA project Frayed Bodies. The initial series of Loose Gatherings showed bodily gestures on a cold, medical grey backdrop. To produce a closeness in lieu of contrast, this extended series pulls on different tones sampled from the body, creating a boundary that is far less distinguishable. Contributing a kind of biometric record through the rendering of precise colour and form, silk becomes a perceptible extension of myself. A soft and safe synthesis then ables me to release from my own body and pick matters apart. With a single needle - a tool more often intended to repair - I de/construct body, material and image.
